After my W10 installation disappeared along with everything on the disk overnight, I need to download W10 Pro again as I upgraded from W7 Ultimate and have lost the backup disk I created. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd rather not download an ISO from an unofficial source.
This is so weird, my PC was absolutely fine one night, the next morning everything on my OS drive is just gone and, as far as I can tell, completely unrecoverable. All software I've used to test the disk reports that it's in perfect condition On top of that, an old W7 installation I never use - installed on a different drive - became corrupted and unrecoverable as well; though I at least didn't lose any data on that disk.
The Media Creation Tool is able to create installation media that allows installation of Home and Pro versions of Windows 10, so you can use that. Bear in mind it now creates a ISO so if you would prefer you'll have to look elsewhere. I don't keep myself up to date on specific Windows versions - why would I prefer over ?
There have been some issues with the release of the new version , and Microsoft haven't pushed it out to everyone yet so your PC might have driver issues with it. If you don't mind the possibility of having to reinstall again if your PC does have issues with the new version, then you can try and see how it goes.
Alright, cheers. Don't really have much to lose given it'll be a new installation. Any idea when a fix is expected? Honestly no idea, I'd say soon but the release has been so botched I don't really know. Most people don't have issues though so you'll probably be ok. You should be fine to update to now. If you have an issue, reply to this thread and let me know. Build an ISO with the media creation tool. The windows version will be determined by the key you activate it with.
To my understanding, your upgraded licence should still be valid so it should be pretty straightforward. If I'm wrong, install windows 7 pro, activate it and then search the Internet for the windows 10 upgrade executable. You should be able to find it, just not on an official site.
